CHALLENGE

Learn Siemens NX, Ansys Fluent, while learning how rocket engine systems operate and work.

Process

Used drawings, reference videos, and prior CAD experience to create the part.

Process and Features

Nozzle Design

Using RPA, inputted an arbitrary thrust force, and then modeled the rocket nozzle shape.

Nozzle RPA Analysis

RPA outputted dimensions that would shape the nozzle, as well as, describing different values.

Injector Design

My greatest challenge was a lack of online sources that taught me how to develop a Coaxial Swirler. I based my design mainly on Copenhagen Suborbitals' swirler design, while sourcing dimensions from other collegiate rocket projects and NASA.

Injector Plate

Designed an additional housing that would allow the numerous injectors to be attached to the nozzle design above.

Coaxial Swirler Injector Testing

Used ANSYS Fluent to develop velocity streamlines and flow lines that described fluid motion through the injector.
